How to grow website to 20k blog page views per month:
How do you grow your blogging traffic to 20k blog page views a month? I have compiled a list of blog growth strategies for new bloggers to use to help grow your blogging traffic.
Especially when blog growth can feel like a monumental task and when you are first starting out with a new blog 20k blog page views in a month can feel like an unachievable goal.
I am here to tell you that gaining the blog growth you want, is possible! Growing your new blog to reach 20,ooo page views per month is an achievable goal.
Stop hobby blogging.
When I first started this blog I had high hopes and and definitely had the “if I build it they will come” mentality.
In other words, I was hobby blogging until recently. I had no clue how to get people to read my blog posts. I knew I needed to generate blog traffic, but I honestly didn’t know where to start.
To say that I quickly became discouraged is an understatement. I had quickly cracked the code on social media sites as a new blogger and was getting 100s of thousands of impressions on Pinterest but they were just that, impressions. I wasn’t getting much traffic to my actual site and the traffic I was getting wasn’t sticking around too long.
Long story short, I went on a hiatus. I made my first post. I made some digital products. I created another new post about what I considered high-quality content and the amount of traffic I was getting wasn’t increasing. I even tried creating an email list… I was working on all the different ways there are to get your content out there. But not really focusing on one thing at a time.
Tune out the hype and focus on your journey.
When you are on Pinterest as a new blogger you can see that blogging is a great way to make a full-time income. You are flooded with posts about how much money and the monthly pageviews other bloggers are getting. Then you see the online courses everyone is marketing to increase your level of traffic.
I have made it my mission to figure out how to gain more organic traffic through search engines. My goal is to increase my monthly visitors to 20,000 monthly page views.
Keyword Research Tool, you need it.
I have been using a lot more SEO or search engine optimization when writing my posts (and even updating my posts). I realized most of my posts weren’t SEO-optimized or even quality articles. My first blog was like a personal journal. It was one of my biggest mistakes.
I also realized my very general blog page needed to be more focused. Full-time bloggers have all been on their own blogging journey and have cornered the market on how to write for their blog niche. A successful blogger makes money blogging because they know their blogging community and who they are writing for. They also took the time to build their audience.
My first mistake was spending time writing what I wanted to write without writing what I wanted to write with some research. This is where your target audience comes in, and search engine optimization is one of the best ways to get a lot of traffic. One of the most effective ways to get eyes onto the new content you are creating through an organic search is SEO. I finally made the move and invested in an SEO tool to help focus my writing and find what people are searching the internet for in real time.
What are long tail keywords?
Essentially, long tail keywords are anything three words or longer. It’s a well-known fact that more than 70% of all web searches are long-tail keywords, which means you will have a higher probability of a visitor converting-if you have good long-tail keywords, due to the specific nature of the question being asked. Good SEO practices should include short and long-tail keywords.
As is with life, consistency is key!
While we have always heard the common phrase- consistency is key! What does that really mean in the world of blogging?
I have come to realize it means posting several times a week. In order to rank on search engines, you can’t take a several-week break. Which is probably why most blogs fail… It’s hard work, and people don’t realize how long it takes to create quality articles. In order to produce popular articles that Google wants to showcase, it should be thought of as- a minimum requirement when you are in your first year of blogging.
Consistent content creation for your target audience is a great way to increase Google traffic.
Evergreen, Evergreen, Evergreen.. you can’t avoid it.
New bloggers in the blogging scene should gain a basic understanding of what Evergreen content is.
Evergreen content is high-quality content that remains relevant over time. It should be something your current readers, and new readers find helpful year after year. Finding topics that are timeless and will be in demand for a long time is a great place to start.
For example, if you are a food blogger and you want to create some classic recipes that people are always looking for. Another example would be during the fall, people are always searching for tailgating appetizer recipes. People are also always searching for basic cooking techniques that you could use for any dish or any cooking occasion.
Creating high-quality content that stands the test of time has the power to attract new readers and keep current readers coming back
Blogging is a business. Treat it like a business!
To start, I treated my blog like a hobby. And I got the results one should expect from something you don’t put any real effort into.
Reaching 20,000 views on my blog page seems like an ambitious goal. It is also an achievable goal. I can’t stress this enough- you have to put in the time. In my first month, and my first year of blogging, I didn’t commit the time required to become a successful blogger. This isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme.
Weekly Habits Required To Be A Full Time Blogger
Time:
Having a personal blog is great, but If you want to build a blog income with a good amount of traffic, you have to regularly commit the time to produce great content. You have to treat it like a job because it is a lot of work. The good news, it’s possible. Investing the time into your blog is the biggest piece of advice I can give you when you are working on your own blog. Take the time required.
For instance, for the time being, I am still working my 9-5 job and blogging in my free time. I spend my free time, primarily after I get my kids to bed, working on something blog-related. I am either researching keywords or writing or marketing my blog posts. Once I started really investing in my blog things started to change for me.
Money:
I had been kind of limping along and trying to teach myself as went along. I did all of the free mini-courses I could get my hands on, read the free eBooks, and subscribed for the free blog checklists… then I bought my first subscription to an SEO tool called Rank IQ. This has been by far one of the best investments I have made to date with my blog. If you don’t want to spend money on an SEO tool, I have been using Google Analytics in conjunction with Rank IQ.
Links:
I don’t use a lot of links, but I do use some. If I am writing and suggest a product I like then I will post some affiliate links. I also post links to other blog posts regularly. It is a great way to keep readers on your site if you are providing value and can be an effective strategy for some. I also spend a lot of time trying different things with my Pinterest backlinks. Most of my traffic at this point comes from Pinterest, which is why I am working on organic search volume with good SEO practices.
Guest Posting:
One way to drive blog traffic to blog posts is to guest post on other blogs. It’s a great way to gain credibility and gain visibility in the field. You are trading your blog post for a backlink to your personal blog.
Final Thoughts
There are a plethora of resources out there for a new blogger. If I were starting my site over these are the top 5 things I would focus on to gain the blog growth you would want:
1. High Quality Content
2. Search Engine Optimization or SEO or Keyword Research
3. Website Speed and functionality
4. Consistent Content Production
5. Google Analytics
The best way forward when starting your new blog is to build the foundation for your new website by focusing on great content with good SEO practices. If your new website has consistent content creation filled with new blog posts that are based on keyword research, your blog will have the foundation needed with or without social media sites.
In the long run, growing a new website to 20,000 page views a month will take time. It takes effort, consistency, and a lot of time. If you stay focused it’s possible to reach any goal you set for your blog.
